Women’s Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Draw At FIU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Women’s Soccer earned a hard-fought draw on the road at FIU, 1-1, in Miami, Fla., on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.

With the draw, the Ospreys moved to 1-1-1 on the season.

Under Head Coach Eric Faulconer, UNF remains unbeaten against FIU.

North Florida jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage after fifth year forward/midfielder Paige McSwigan netted her second goal of the year off an assist from junior midfielder Taylor Tamares and junior forward Allison Souers.

For McSwigan, it marked her 14th career goal. For Tamares and Souers, it marked each of their first assists of the year.

Fifth year goalkeeper Sofia Miliancano held the Panthers scoreless in the first half of play with a pair of saves to maintain the lead. 

However, FIU would respond with a goal of its own in the 54th minute to even the contest.

Threating for the Ospreys, McSwigan would fire a shot in the 83rd minute that deflected off the top crossbar, and Tamares would tack on a shot on goal that was saved in the 90th minute by the goalkeeper.

Overall, 18 Ospreys saw action with Miliancano, junior defender Julia Cosgrove, junior midfielder Taylor Tamares, senior defender Zoe Looker and junior midfielder Sarah Frazer each logging the full 90. Looker has played the full time in all three of the Ospreys contests.

North Florida returns home to Corporate Traffic Logistics Field at Hodges Stadium for a matchup with College of Charleston on Thursday, Aug. 27. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
