Trump cuts tariffs on tractors, combines, other farm equipment

President Trump has lowered tariffs on tractors, combines and other farm equipment to 15% from 25% as part of modifying tariffs on steel, aluminum and copper.
Tariffs on steel, aluminum and copper remain in place, but Trump signed a proclamation June 1 cutting tariffs for some products made of those materials, including heating, cooling and ventilation systems, and mobile industrial equipment.
The tariff cuts should spur investments in agriculture, housing and manufacturing without jeopardizing the overall goal of reviving the steel, aluminum and copper industries, according to the White House.
“These products also serve an important role in productive domestic economic activity,” the proclamation states.
Trump signed the tariff-reducing proclamation June 1. The lower tariffs take effect June 8.
The tariff reduction comes as farms face rising input costs and tight margins, American Soybean Association President Scott Metzger said in a statement.
“Lowering costs on critical equipment and parts is a positive step for soybean farmers and all of agriculture,” he said.
John Deere reported that tariffs and retaliatory tariffs cost the company $600 million in 2025. The Illinois-based manufacturer assembles most of its equipment in the U.S., but also imports products from Europe, Mexico, India and Japan, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Deere paid some of the tariffs because it moved production of small-frame skid steer loaders to Mexico, according to SEC filings.
