TUNKHANNOCK — More than a dozen people unhappy with President Donald Trump and his policies turned out for a No Kings rally at Feed Mill Park on Sunday afternoon.
The rally, organized by the Wyoming County Democratic Women, was one of many No Kings events scheduled throughout the nation on Sunday, which was Flag Day as well as Trump’s 80th birthday, organizer Cindy Francis said.
Passing motorists waved and honked their horns as the protesters, standing just off Bridge Street near the CVS Pharmacy, held up signs bearing messages critical of Trump.
In interviews just before the rally started, those in attendance rattled off numerous complaints about the president and his administration. They included:
The way in Iran, inflation and the cost of food, the mixed martial arts fight planned for outside the White House on Sunday night, Trump’s adding his own name to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, out of control health care costs and what some said was over-zealous measures used to detain undocumented immigrants.
“Every morning I wake up, I never know what (Trump) is going to do next,” said rally-goer Karl Besteder, of Tunkhannock.
Besteder, 87, said he has attended other No Kings rallies in Florida and plans to take part in more rallies in the future. He wore a cap on which was written the message “Make America Think Again.”
Alice Strauss, of Tunkhannock, said the nation is “in crisis” and “our country is being run by a crazy person.”
